Last year, Datz Restaurant Group sponsored the adoption fees of four dogs and four cats waiting for their forever homes at Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB). We’re excited to say that we’ll be able to do it again this year, so please help us spread the word.
The Humane Society handpicked 8 animals for us to sponsor, so if you’re interested in one of these wonderful cats or dogs below, be sure to head down to the shelter on 3607 N. Armenia Avenue. We hope you have a great holiday and that you’ll help share these critters with your friends and family so that Lexi, Yoda, Axel, Shadow, Marley, Abby, Rhea, and Jenny have a great Christmas.
Every year we host a giving tree at the front of the restaurant with “ornaments” that our staff and foodie customers can take home and use to grant a Christmas wish. Each ornament is for a child in need via the Foster Angels of Hillsborough County or includes wish list items for Humane Society of Tampa Bay’s for the food, toys & treats, and cleaning products they need to care for animals until they find their forever home. Next time you come to Datz or Dough to get your foodie fix, check out the tree and if you can help a child or animal, that’s great!
Thanks for all that you do to help others in the Tampa Bay community and for being a Datz Restaurant Group fan.
Are you following @officialfoodgroup on Instagram??? If not, you’d better start! Let us introduce you to Jerry Cionci, one of the 7 masterminds that run this account that’s sure to make you triple your foodie bucket list for local and national restaurants, including us! Hear about Jerry’s favorites and follow him on Insta here: @jercionci6.
Tell us what do you do and what are 3 words you’d use to describe yourself.
I am a professional marketer for Champs Sports and run the company’s social media for North America. But on the side, my 7 friends, including my brother @mcionci, run Official Food Group!
Three words: fun, knowledgable, energetic.
What made you start Official Food Group? Have you made a lot of foodie friends?
After my roommates from college and I graduated, we kept in touch through a group text. Most of the pics happened to be food. Over a year, we added my brother and couple other close friends to the group text, who also liked to take food pics. The rest is history. Our goal was to inspire our followers to eat elite when traveling. Since we have 8 people spread all over the country, we could diversity our food content and scale the page. We each have a market and are responsible for building that market by eating all over the city, building relationships and tagging restaurants. All pics are our own, and we pride ourselves on that.
What’s the best food you’ve discovered from Official Food Group?
Tough. But my personal favorite was when I was in Lockhart, TX and went to Kreuz Market (100 + year old BBQ joint in the capital of Texax BBQ). I got a private tour and was eating brisket and prime rib fed to me by the pit master off his knife. The meat is so juicy and succulent, that they don’t allow BBQ sauce! That experience was one I would never forget.
How about the best cocktail?
In Austin, TX I had an frozen avocado margarita at this Tex-Mex joint called Curra’s Grill. So smooth, so refreshing.
What’s your favorite food on the Datz menu?
The Eggs Barbacoa was the best thing I’ve had at Datz!
What’s your favorite food and why is it your favorite?
Mexican. Spicy food has the key to my heart.
Share a food with us that you’ve seen on the internet and would love to try.
Well, my buddy in our food group @jaymell7, got to eat at Franklin Barbecue in Austin, TX. This place has a 4 hour wait daily and even The President goes there. It’s suppose to be the best BBQ in the world… THE item to try is the brisket!
What do you think about Tampa Bay’s food scene?
It’s on the come up. People from all over the country are moving here and bringing new ideas to the scene. Now it’s our job to try all these new spots and promote Tampa Bay on our page!
What’s another city’s food scene would you like to try?
Chicago. With traditional items like deep dish pizza and hot dogs [becoming more popular] to the new spots opening up, I would be in a food coma for days.
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever eaten?
Sautéed Grasshopper tacos at @thelurestpete! Awesome by the way… And nutritious too.
Are you ready for Tampa Bay Beer Week?? It’s finally here! Come and see us on Friday, March 11 and Sunday, March 13 for two amazing craft beer events you won’t find anywhere else.
Come and see us on Friday, March 11 for the “Romantic Chemistry” release party at 6 p.m.! Be one of the first to try this new craft beer by Dogfish Head. Romantic Chemistry is an IPA made with mango, apricots, and ginger. We’ll also have “Some Beer to Drink Music To”, which is a Belgian-style Trippel.
Join us on Sunday, March 13 at 11 a.m. for a special release of Funky Buddha’s Chocwork Orange Milk Porter and Last Snow Porter on DRAFT!
There are only 6 kegs of Chocwork Orange in Florida at this very moment and Datz has one of them! How’s that for a golden ticket??
Last Snow is a coconut & coffee porter that can be hard to find in general, but it’s especially rare on draft.

It’s time to celebrate 7 years of “cheating” in South Tampa. It’s our birthday and we’ll start a foodie holiday if we want to!
NATIONAL CHEAT DAY is meant to celebrate life’s greatest indulgence— food. On January 28, we want you to be over the top, because we know after “cheat day” ends you’ll go back to being your responsible (most of the time), health-conscious (is butter a carb?) self.
Think of NATIONAL CHEAT DAY like National Doughnut Day, National Bacon Day, or National Pumpkin Pie, but WAY BETTER.
Share your “cheat day” food with us by hashtagging #NationalCheatDay on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook on January 28. You can join in on the foodie fun from ANY city, restaurant, or home.
If you do plan on coming to Datz to spoil yourself on NATIONAL CHEAT DAY, we highly recommend The Cheesy Todd, the ultimate cheat food: 100% fresh ground chuck, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and pickle, with— wait for it— two bacon-jalapeño mac n’ cheese “buns”!
You should also know that at Datz on NATIONAL CHEAT DAY you can enjoy FREE mini cocktails* and appetizer samples*, including our new menu item, the Tempura Reuben Roll!
At Dough, our whimsical coffee & sweets shop next door, you can enjoy a FREE scoop of house-made ice cream.
See you on Jan. 28 for the tastiest day of the year, foodies.
We visited Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Company this week to check out where our delicious coffee is being roasted and it was awesome. First of all, Joffrey’s does all of their coffee bean roasting just 15 minutes north of us on S. MacDill. They roast to order, so you know the coffee you’re drinking wasn’t sitting on a pallet before it got delivered to us. Another great thing is that they only use the highest quality arabica beans and they roast only two bags at a time— meaning each and every coffee bean is evenly roasted.
How’s that for FRESH, LOCAL, and AMAZING?
Enjoy Joffrey’s Coffee iced or hot with us at Datz or at our coffee & sweets shop next door, Dough.
